Why I'm No Longer Bothered if You Don’t Believe in Synchronicity

But following their trail has helped me live — and write — easier

I published a short version of this article first on Medium. This article has an extra segment at the end: it examines synchronicity and synastry.

Synchronicity are coincidences that mean something. They always do, but it’s up to you to catch it.

Synchronicity arise when we find realities colliding with us as our consciousness align with others. I used to try to defend this to skeptics who prefer “coincidence” instead. It’s anathema to imply that there are hidden forces or connections at work in the universe.

But it’s OK. And I can enjoy the questions now. Consciousness is still something that science tries to comprehend.

Meanwhile, we are the ones who have to live it every day. It’s ultimately down to me alone. And you alone, too.

A Passing Bit (Of Information) or a Wake-up Call (To Knowing)

It was Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung who coined the term in the 1920s, combining the Greek words "syn" (together) and "chronos" (time).

I find this quality poetic. Most of us live on this realm bound by Time, however we conceive of it.

We also can agree that we’re connected.

The thing is, we can let all of this pass us by. Just a deluge and overwhelm of random people, events, and things. Everything (and one) are information overload to be ignored.

Or we decide to deepen our perspective through time and people. Appreciating the ones who pass by or stick a little longer in our lives. Taking circumstances for what they are — situations in which you get to choose.

It’s the difference between superficial living and wanting to know. Even pure skeptics find themselves stopping in the latter crossroads from time to time.

Without this faith and belief in another reality, I bet most marriages wouldn’t occur. (Tongue-in-cheek.)

The key characteristic of synchronicity is that they’re uncanny, leading you to question if there was a deeper connection between an event and you. Or someone and you. Perhaps even a shared history or origin.

Either you want to expand yours, or not.

It’s changed how I do things.

When I first learnt how synchronicity occur between people, even across time, and how they can be seen in the astrological chart/s, I was hooked. Acknowledging things could happen for a reason that you’ve not yet grasped — especially a painful one — is one way to collapse the personal ego. Or at least let it not be in your way all the time.

In astrology, synastry is this study of connections between people.
